How to memorize The Periodic Table of The Elements in less than 30 minutes
We’ll use a technique known as acrostic mnemonics. You’ll create rhymes whose first letters are associated with the chemical elements latin names combined with a repetition technique used by many actors to memorize their lines.
First of all…memorize the latin names for the elements, e.g. sodium (Natrium), potassium (Kalium), gold (Aurum) etc.
Secondly…start out with the elements in group 1,2 and 13-18.
OK…let’s start:
Group 1: Harry Little Nailed Karl Rubens Cars Frequently. (Hydrogen Lithium Natrium Kalium Rubidium Caesium Francium)
Repeating the rhyme in this manner is the most important part of this technique!!!!
Group 2 : Berry Macgregor Carried Stripper Babe Rachel. (Beryllium Magnesium Calcium Strontium Barium Radium).
Group 13 : Birmingham Alabama Gardens Into Toledo (Boron Aluminum Gallium Indium Thallium)
Group 14 : Cosmin’s Sister Gertrude Snacks Peanut Butter (Carbon, Silicon, Germanium, Tin, Lead)
Group 15 : Nine Pidgeons Assist Snowboarding Birds (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Arsenic, Antimony, Bismuth)
Group 16 : Orange Sherbet Selected Tea Pots (Oxygen, Sulfur, Selenium, Tellurium, Polonium
Group 17 : Flying Clawed Brass Iguanas Attack (Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine, Astatine)
Group 18 : Heavy Nerds Are Krafting Xenophobic Renagades (Helium Neon Argon Krypton Xenon Radon)
If you care to, you can do the same with the transition metals in group 3-12…and the lanthanides (Ladies Can’t Put Nickels Properly into Slot-machines. Every Girl Tries Daily, However, Every Time You Look)
When you’ve created the rhymes memorizing them shouldn’t take you more than a good 30 minutes…
Please note that English is not my mother tongue, and I’m certain you guys can come up with better rhymes than I did.
ENJOYYYY....
